Originally a nine-hole layout, the course was expanded to 18 holes around 1900. In 1923, the esteemed golfer and architect James Braid was commissioned to redesign the course, a layout that remains largely unchanged today.
The course offers a classic links experience but is relatively short, a par 70 stretching 6200 yards, with its fast running fairways you’ll find the course very playable, until you turn into the wind! The front nine holes run adjacent to the shoreline, providing panoramic ocean views, while the back nine return inland, offering a diverse and engaging round of golf.
Brora Golf Club is renowned for its harmonious integration with the natural environment. The course is home to local wildlife, including sheep and cattle, which graze the fairways and contribute to the maintenance of the traditional links turf. The benefit of this is the cattle eat the rough so you shouldn’t lose many balls at Brora, but you will have to clamber over the electric fences which surround the greens! This unique aspect adds to the charm and authenticity of the golfing experience at Brora.
