Founded in 1903, the club features two 18-hole courses—the Old Course and the New Course—both designed by Herbert Fowler. These heathland layouts are celebrated for their challenging design and natural beauty, with the Old Course consistently ranking among the world’s top 100 courses. The courses feature a traditional, strategic layout with firm fairways and natural heathland terrain, filled with heather and gorse, creating a classic heathland golfing experience.
The club has a storied association with royalty and politics, having counted King Edward VIII among its past captains. It has also hosted significant events, including the 1981 Ryder Cup and the 2023 AIG Women’s Open.
