Often referred to as “England’s Golf Coast,” this region is home to three of the most prestigious courses in the UK: Royal Liverpool, Royal Birkdale, and Royal Lytham & St Annes. Between them, they’ve hosted more than 30 Open Championships and multiple Ryder Cups, offering a chance to walk in the footsteps of legends on some of the most revered layouts in the game.
But there’s more to the North West than just the big names. The region is dotted with hidden gems and classic links that provide a variety of golfing experiences – from traditional seaside tests to charming inland layouts. Combine that with stunning coastal scenery and a warm, down-to-earth welcome, and you’ve got a golf destination that’s as enjoyable off the course as it is on it.
With easy access to vibrant cities like Liverpool and Manchester, a rich sporting heritage, and excellent dining and nightlife, the North West delivers the complete golf trip package. And for football fans, it’s home to some of the biggest Premier League clubs in the world – adding another unforgettable experience to your itinerary.
The North West England is well-connected by road, rail, and air. Manchester Airport is a major international hub, while train services link cities like Liverpool, Manchester, and Preston to London and other parts of the UK. Motorways like the M6 and M62 provide easy road access. Uber is readily available in Liverpool city centre, however booking Ubers back to the city from the golf courses may be challenging, so we recommend pre booking transfers.
North West England has a temperate maritime climate, with Summers (June to August) generally mild, with average temperatures ranging from 14°C to 20°C (57°F to 68°F). Winters (December to February) are cool and damp, with temperatures typically between 1°C and 8°C (34°F to 46°F), and frost is common.
Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are transitional, with temperatures averaging 8°C to 15°C (46°F to 59°F). Coastal areas, like Liverpool, tend to be windier, while inland cities like Manchester can feel slightly warmer. Layered clothing is recommended as the weather can change quickly, especially during the shoulder seasons.
